The Works-in-Translation Fund

Sponsorship of individual books is a meaningful way to support Bellevue Literary Press. As a new special initiative launched at the 2026 Spring Fête, the Works-in-Translation Fund ensures that remarkable literature from around the world can reach a wider audience among readers of English. Recent books in translation have originated in Catalan, Czech, French, Persian, Portuguese, Spanish, and other languages.

The average cost of simply translating a work starts at $5,000, and the cost of translating and publishing begins at $25,000. The final cost depends on the book’s page count, whether it contains color illustrations, and the total print run, which can be anywhere from 2,500–5,000 copies.

While we appreciate contributions at any level, we offer Translation Sponsorships at $5,000–$10,000 per title and World Literature Sponsorships (supporting both translation and book production) at $25,000–$35,000 per title. Support can be designated for a specific book or for the program in general. If you would like to contribute toward this fund, please use the "dedication" field in the form below.
